Lunchtime Assistant job summary

Millbrook Primary School is seeking a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Lunchtime Assistant to help create safe, happy and engaging lunchtimes where every child feels valued, included and supported.

As part of our committed team, you will play an important role in ensuring that lunchtime is a positive and enjoyable experience for all children. You will encourage positive behaviour, support play and social interaction, promote children's wellbeing and help create an environment where friendships, independence and confidence can flourish.

This role is also an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career in education or looking to gain further experience working within a school environment. Many members of school staff begin their journey in support roles such as this, developing valuable skills and experience that can lead to wider opportunities within education.

More About the Role

As a Lunchtime Assistant, you will:

  • Supervise children in the dining hall, playground and around the school site, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
  • Help maintain a calm, orderly and welcoming lunchtime environment.
  • Support children in developing positive relationships, good manners and responsible behaviour.
  • Encourage active and inclusive play, helping children engage positively with others and enjoy their lunchtime experience.
  • Follow school procedures for wet play and indoor lunchtimes.
  • Support and oversee playground activities, including working with Playground Leaders to promote safe and engaging play opportunities.
  • Carry out associated duties such as cleaning spillages, tidying tables and ensuring dining and play areas remain safe and presentable.
  • Administer basic first aid where required and report any concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Accurately complete records relating to accidents or incidents and ensure relevant staff are informed promptly.
  • Work closely with colleagues to maintain high standards of care, supervision and safeguarding.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, has a positive and proactive approach, and is committed to helping every child feel safe, happy and included during the school day.
