Lunchtime Controller job summary

You will support and supervise pupils during the lunch period, helping to create a calm, friendly and inclusive environment. This includes preparing children for lunch, supervising play, supporting positive behaviour and ensuring pupils’ wellbeing at all times. The role also involves facilitating age-appropriate games and activities to promote social and emotional development, as outlined in the job description .

Key responsibilities

You will:

  • Support pupils in preparing for lunch, including routines such as washing hands.
  • Supervise pupils before, during and after the meal to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
  • Follow procedures for wet-play lunchtimes and contribute to setting up and tidying away activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour, celebrating good conduct and implementing agreed rewards and sanctions.
  • Help provide a variety of engaging lunchtime games, clubs and activities.
  • Record accidents appropriately and follow Health & Safety, safeguarding and confidentiality requirements at all times.

The ideal candidate

We welcome applicants who enjoy working with children and can create a warm, supportive lunchtime environment. You will demonstrate:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A calm, reliable and proactive approach.
  • An understanding of promoting positive behaviour and inclusion.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety and safeguarding expectations.
    Experience working with children and a willingness to undertake first-aid training are desirable. Further role-specific attributes are listed in the Person Specification .

About Birch Hill Primary School

We are a two-form entry community school serving the Birch Hill and Hanworth districts of Bracknell Forst. In addition to the main school, we offer a nursery and a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) catering for children with ASD and MLD. We can accommodate 420 children, plus 26 spaces in our nursery, which offers flexible 30 hours a week. The school is organised into two Key Stages - EYFS/ KS1 and KS2.
