Maternity Cover teacher for a mixed age KS2 class job summary
The Year 4/5 Class Teacher (Maternity Cover) at Dean Gibson RC School will provide high-quality teaching and pastoral care for a mixed-age class, ensuring that every child makes strong academic progress and personal development in line with the school’s vision and values. This role is pivotal in delivering a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum that reflects the diverse needs of our pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, and varying abilities. The teacher will also lead Science and Computing across the school, promoting curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking aligned with Dean Gibson’s commitment to nurturing confident, respectful, and motivated learners.
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons for the Year 4/5 mixed-age class, following the school’s curriculum and schemes of work.
- Use assessment effectively to monitor pupil progress, identify learning needs, and adapt teaching accordingly to ensure high standards for all pupils.
- Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils, fostering a safe and stimulating learning environment rooted in mutual respect.
- Promote the development of literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, with a particular focus on embedding strong Science and Computing knowledge and skills.
- Manage behaviour effectively to maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom atmosphere.
Safeguarding
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils in accordance with statutory guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education) and the school’s safeguarding policies.
- Work closely with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to share any concerns about pupil safety or well-being promptly and appropriately.
- Maintain vigilance and professional responsibility to ensure a safe learning environment where all pupils feel secure and supported.
- Participate in safeguarding training and remain up to date with best practises to protect children’s welfare within the school community.
