What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an enthusiastic Teacher of Science. There is an Academic Team Leader, a Deputy Academic Team Leader and a teacher with reponsibility within the team. A number of our Senior Leaders and Pastoral leads also teach within the Science Department.

At Key Stage 3 students study Biology, Chemistry and Physics in mixed ability groups. Students have four lessons a week. We cover a range of topics at Key Stage 3 which focus on a combination of experimental and mathematical skills, and theory.

At Key Stage 4 we offer Combined Science and Separate Science as a GCSE option. We have an open options system at Dowdales. Combined Scientists have six lessons a week and Separate Scientists have nine (with three in each discipline).

Results in the department are strong and students enjoy their lessons. Attainment is regularly above the national average in Combined Science. Separate Science is a popular option at GCSE with one two groups running in most academic years.

We believe in providing opportunites for students to immerse themselves STEM subjects outside their lessons. Extra curricular activities are a strength at Dowdales and enrichment activities in Sciences and, more widely in STEM, support this ethos. We also offer science clubs at lunchtime.

We are proud to have:

  • Extremely high aspirations for all students at Dowdales ensuring that every young person makes excellent progress and performs to the best of their ability
  • Students with positive attitudes who enjoy coming to school

Commitment to safeguarding
