Medical Officer job summary

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a confident, committed and supportive Medical officer who will be responsible for providing emergency First Aid to our school community and general administrative support as part of our School Office team.

Hours of work: 9am-3pm Monday to Friday (term time only plus one week including INSETs)

Pay-scale: H4 £23,893-£25,119 (£16,570 - £17,421 pro rata) 

Responsibilities will include:

  • responsibility for providing emergency first aid to members of the school community
  • supervising the medical room and caring for unwell/injured students/staff 
  • making decisions on student/staff doctor/hospital referrals
  • recording visits to the medical room/accidents treated/medicines administered on the school's MIS and undertaking data analysis to identify trends 
  • obtaining parental consent forms for administering medicines
  • liaising with local health authorities to organise immunisations, vaccinations and health checks
  • recording new students' dietary requirements, including liaison with our Catering team 
  • Maintaining lists of students with ‘need to know’ conditions e.g., allergies, medical requirements, EpiPen/inhaler users
  • checking students’ medication expiry dates and storage instructions, ensuring that the school's EpiPen/inhaler stock is replenished on a timely basis
  • liaising with Site team regarding defibrillator servicing
  • supporting School Trips Coordinator with event-specific dietary and medical reports, identifying potential issues, preparing medicines required and providing First Aid kits
  • liaising with Pastoral team regarding mental health/welfare issues affecting students  
  • ordering medical supplies and ensuring First Aid kit supplies around the school are regularly replenished 
  • prompt completion of accident forms
  • reporting of safeguarding concerns via CPOMS
  • working as part of the school office team to provide general administrative support to staff

  • First Aid experience - including a current or recently expired First Aid qualification
  • basic IT skills

Katherine Warington School is a new comprehensive, co‐educational and non‐denominational academic secondary school (opened September 19) with 750 students currently (180 in each of years 7, 8, 9 and 10 – these year groups are already oversubscribed). The school will add a
