Mental Health Lead / School Counsellor job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Mental Health Lead. The previous post holder has left us after 10 years of excellent service to pursue the next stage of her career. The incumbent will continue to champion the positive mental health of our students and ensure our school remains at the forefront of best practice. Our Mental Health Lead manages a team of eight counsellors and/or therapists who provide our students with a counselling service for a range of low level mental health needs. They will work with external agencies to gain support for more complex needs. The successful applicant will identify students in need, provide a range of services to both promote and intervene, analyse data for impact and trends, and develop policies, procedures and plans to further develop our progressive mental health services. The successful candidate will manage disclosures and safeguarding issues appropriately to ensure students’ well-being and safety. They may also personally counsel some students. This role is suitable for a qualified Counsellor, mental health practitioner or might suit a teacher looking for a non-teaching role. Knowledge or experience of working in an educational environment would be desirable, but is not essential. Experience of working with young people is essential. In return, we offer the opportunity to work in a friendly, vibrant and outstanding school, pay for supervision sessions, provide a good pension and a free Employee Assistance Programme. In recognition for its work on mental health, Wycombe High School is a Gold Mind Index Award holder.
