What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Midday Assistant to help ensure our children have a safe, happy, and well-managed lunchtime.

This is a vital role within our school, supporting both the dining and playtime experiences for our pupils. If you enjoy working with children, are a good team player, and have the energy to make lunchtimes fun and positive, we’d love to hear from you.

This role also includes 2 hours per week Teaching Assistant to assist in class (1 hour a day x2 13:15-14:15) this is paid at scale 3 point 5-6 with an actual salary of £1,117.95 - £1,135.67. Please see separate job description and person specification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising children during lunch in the dining hall, ensuring a calm and pleasant environment
  • Supporting children with routines such as lining up, eating, and clearing away
  • Cleaning and wiping down tables and tidying the lunch area after use
  • Leading and encouraging safe, inclusive play in the playground or indoor areas during wet weather
  • Managing behaviour positively, in line with school policies
  • Providing basic first aid (training can be provided if needed)
  • Communicating effectively with children and colleagues
  • Ensuring all pupils are safe, engaged, and supported during lunch

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with children and helping them thrive in a school environment
  • Has a calm, friendly, and approachable manner
  • Is proactive and able to show initiative when supervising and engaging pupils
  • Understands the importance of good behaviour and knows how to manage it fairly and consistently
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Holds a valid first aid certificate (or is willing to undertake training)
