Midday Assistant (MDA) job summary

We are looking for a motivated person to join our friendly Lunchtime Supervision team as a Midday Assistant for two hours each day, Monday to Friday (term time only) over the lunchtime period.

Salary scale: Scale 1-2 point 2-4

Hours: 10 hours per week (term time only)

Lunchtimes at Cann Hall Primary School are fun filled, activity packed and instructional for all our children. Our midday team help supervise the smooth running of lunch sittings in the dining hall and lead a number of selected activities in the playground.

We are looking to appoint a midday assistant to help organise, encourage and engage children in good manners, positive behaviour and keen participation in playground games. The successful candidate must have a positive and approachable disposition, be caring, enthusiastic and a team player - every day! A flexible attitude is key to this position, as no two days will be the same.

We are keen to appoint the right person to join our midday team and therefore previous experience is not essential as full induction and ongoing training will be provided.

The role involves a variety of responsibilities which include:

  • Playground supervision, dining hall duties and wet break supervision in class
  • Promoting ‘Positive Play’ ensuring productive lunchtime activities for pupils, including the ability to make suggestions and involve yourself in activities
  • Ensuring that good order is maintained in accordance with Cann Hall’s Positive Behaviour and Confidentiality Policies
  • Administering basic first aid and keeping records of accidents, liaising with other staff as necessary
  • Assisting with ancillary duties e.g. cleaning up spillages, wiping tables etc.
  • Supporting healthy eating
  • Supervising, supporting play activities and encouraging children to participate in lunchtime activities
  • Ensuring the safety and welfare of all our pupils.
