Midday Assistant job summary
We have an opportunity for someone to join our Lunchtime Team, here at Stephen Freeman Primary School. The successful candidate will be employed 5 days per week, from 11.30am - 1.00pm. This is a fixed term vacancy until the end of the summer term (July 2026) with the possibility of extending the contract beyond, into the 26/27 academic year, subject to operational needs.
In your day-to-day duties you could:
- help children cut up their food, if needed
- encourage good behaviour and table manners
- supervise children in the playground (or indoors if wet weather)
- comfort children who are upset
- deal with minor injuries like cuts, grazes and bruises
- organise games indoors/outside
The role of a Midday Assistant is to supervise the children, supporting them with eating appropriately, ensuring drinks are provided and helping with the social skills of sharing lunchtime with peers. The clearing up of spillages, wiping of tables and support of children wiping trays etc. and the leaving of the dining area in a clean and tidy condition form part of the duties, but come second to supervision.
When the weather is suitable, children may play on the fenced playground/field area as appropriate and part of your role will be to engage with students and ensure their welfare whilst on their lunch break, in line with Health and Safety policy/procedures, Fire Safety policy and Safeguarding policy/procedures. All necessary training will be provided.
The successful applicants will be required to undertake DBS Checks, in line with Safer Recruitment Legislation, as well as having general online information searches completed.
The school reserves the right to interview on receipt of applications and to appoint prior to the published deadline, so early application is recommended.
Ridgeway Education Trust is committed to safeguarding, equality and promoting the welfare of children and expects staff working in all its schools to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS, references and pre-employment safeguarding checks. All Leadership roles will require a Section 128 check.
The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining a post. All cases are considered confidentially and according to the nature of the role and information disclosed.
Please be aware that you will be required to bring your original degree certificate, proof of residence and photographic ID, as applicable, to interview and online searches may be made for shortlisted candidates, as part of due diligence checks.
Our RET Staff Charter summarises the commitment we make to all staff who join and work at Ridgeway Education Trust.
We are committed to expressing our values of high-quality learning, respectful relationships and an inclusive environment in the day-to-day experience of staff and students throughout the school.
