Chessington Music Department (performance faculty)
The Chessington Music Department is part of the Performance faculty. The Music team currently consists of one HOD and five peripatetic specialist teachers. The Performance Faculty has a good blend of experience and works well collaboratively as a team. The department often takes part in mentoring trainee music teachers in their teaching practice. The faculty have a range of performances throughout the year including concerts, showcases and are part of the school production.
The students are set in ability groups for their music lessons, but these are fluid and monitored regularly. The school has developed a scheme of work to suit learners at Chessington School. Our KS4 offer is BTEC level 2 Tech award in Music Practise. We also offer GCSE Music to high achieving Year 11 students that are interested in A-level study.
The music classrooms and rehearsal rooms are located together in our own corridor, with teachers having their own classroom. Each classroom is equipped with a Promethean board and visualiser. One room has iMac computers running Garageband and Logic. The other is for keyboards, Samba and ukulele. There are three rehearsal rooms including a studio room with multicore connections and a theatre with collapsible seating, PA and newly installed lighting rig.
