Nursery Lead job summary
Main purpose
The Nursery Lead will:
- Take the lead role in nursery
- Be responsible for planning by planning and designing effective learning sequences and curriculum
- Create a stimulating learning environment
- Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and ideas
- Welcome and settle the child at the beginning of sessions
- Model quality interactions with children to support the development of the nursery team.
- Be responsible for home school liaison including parents’ evenings, home visits, online learning journals and annual reports
- Support the needs of all pupil groups, by liaising closely with the SENCo and EYFS Lead, completing any necessary documentation.
- Take responsibility for health and safety (including responsibility for inspecting and cleaning all equipment in the nursery)
- Administer First Aid in the Foundation Stage and in school where necessary
Key Tasks
- To participate as a member and lead a team of adults working together to create an environment which promotes children’s development and learning
- To foster children’s growth, self-esteem and independence.
- To plan and prepare for children’s learning.
- To record observations and maintain records of children’s learning and development.
- To encourage children’s learning in both English and their home language.
- To foster effective links with parents.
- To be responsible for activities to take place in indoor and outdoor learning environments and to plan, prepare and display appropriate materials.
- To share responsibility for feeding children, changing their clothes and taking children to the toilet as necessary.
- To work according to the School/Nursery and County Policies for Equality of Opportunity, promoting positive behaviours and attitudes generally, and particularly towards people in non-stereotypical gender roles, of other cultures and with disabilities.
- To support children with special needs in mainstream classes as required.
- To assist in specified programmes, e.g. exercises or using special equipment.
- To provide comfort for sick children and to administer First Aid as appropriate. 2
- To administer medication when necessary, in accordance with School/Nursery and County policies.
- To be aware of Child Protection policy and alert to signs that a child might be at risk.
- To engage with continued professional development as agreed with the Headteacher/EYFS Lead
Pastoral and Wellbeing
To demonstrate an awareness of children’s wellbeing, promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all pupils, and maintaining an awareness of all issues relating to child protection
To play a full part in promoting high standards of positive behaviours and to maintain the behaviour policy across all areas of the Academy
To support children at lunchtime whilst they eat and promote positive behaviour in the outdoor area
Health, safety and behaviour
Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils
Promote and maintain positive and engaged behaviour among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
Communication
- To ensure effective communication with parents and with persons or bodies outside the school who are concerned with the welfare of pupils, after consultation with appropriate staff.
Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals
Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school
Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
