Nursery Practitioner job summary

At Oakwood Primary Academy, the pupils and staff are looking to recruit an outstanding Practitioner to join our Nursery. We have a vacancy for a Level 3 qualified practitioner with working hours from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday during term time.

We seek practitioners with a clear passion for working with pre-school aged children and their families. If your heart lights up at the sight of finger-painted masterpieces, story-time adventures and giggles that fill the room, then we think you’d be perfect for this role. Our nursery is a special place, full of love, learning and laughter and we need a team player who’s ready to sprinkle their own unique charm into our supportive and well-resourced environment.

Not only are we looking for enthusiastic and skilled practitioners to support our learners, but we are also looking for staff with relevant experience and qualities, who can bring warmth, organisation, knowledge, great communication and interpersonal skills to every day. We seek team-players who can integrate their own passion and vision for our setting and its environment, supporting our Nursery Manager to ensure we meet our high expectations that we have for the behaviour, progress and record-keeping for all pupils in our care.

Oakwood Primary Academy is a thriving, happy primary school in Eastbourne, where 305 wonderful pupils (aged 2 – 11) bring life and energy into our setting. Our site hosts our nursery and EYFS pupils in a separate, modern building, that prides itself on being welcoming, nurturing and a beautiful place to be. Here at Oakwood, we’re proud to be a part of the local community - a community that means a great deal to our pupils, families and all the staff, and since being rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in October 2022, we’ve been working hard to reach even greater heights for every child in our care.

In return for your dedication, we are pleased to offer:

  • A supportive team who place our values of Knowledge, Equality, Determination, and Achievement at the centre of all that we do with a commitment to raising pupil achievement and aspirations
  • Extensive professional development opportunities, including Aurora Trust-wide CPD
  • A spacious well-equipped and well-resourced learning environment
  • A skilled and committed SLT who are devoted to improving outcomes for all children and staff
  • The opportunity to be part of a multi-academy trust that has collaboration at its heart and will support you every step of the way
  • Enhanced paternity leave, in excess of the Green and Burgundy Books
  • Aurora Academies Advantage scheme - this includes access to free and confidential advice on a range of topics via the Employee Assistance Programme, online GP service, cycle to work scheme, discounts to high-street shops and health and well-being support

The salary shown reflects an interim 2025/2026 pay award, pending completion of the negotiations between the National Employers and the Trade Unions. The difference between this and what is agreed as the final pay award will be paid as a lump sum back pay, when announced by the government and the Trade Unions.

If you’re interested, we’d absolutely love to meet you and show you why our nursery is such an amazing place to be! If you’d like to arrange a visit or have any questions, please kindly email our school business manager, Mrs Susan Hubbard, at shubbard@oakwoodpa.org.uk.
