Nursery Practitioner job summary

First Steps at Cansfield Nursery, based at Cansfield High School, is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Nursery Practitioner to join our team on a fixed‑term basis to cover maternity leave. Working 30 hours per week during term time and 22.5 hours per week during the school holidays, this is a fantastic opportunity to work in a nurturing early‑years environment where every child’s development and wellbeing is at the heart of what we do.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise groups of children — including those with additional needs — ensuring their safety, wellbeing and access to stimulating learning activities.
Establish and maintain an engaging, age‑appropriate play and learning environment.
Support the implementation of agreed work programmes with individuals and small groups.
Promote positive behaviour, maintain good order and ensure all activities comply with relevant health and safety legislation.
Work collaboratively with the Nursery Manager and the wider team to deliver high‑quality childcare and early education.

Essential Qualification & Experience

Level 3 qualification in Childcare or equivalent is essential.
Experience working within an early years setting.
Confidence in supporting children with a range of needs.
