What skills and experience we're looking for
Are you a dedicated, creative and experienced Primary teacher who can inspire pupils to achieve their full potential? Due to increasing demand, we are seeking an additional Nurture Teacher to join our committed and professional staff team.
We are looking to recruit a nurturing teacher with a strong pedagogical understanding of how to support pupils to develop positive relationships, self-confidence, resilience, and creativity. We wish to appoint a kind-hearted primary teacher, with an outstanding understanding of how to re-engage pupils with learning, manage challenging behaviour and believes in the power of play.
A strong admin background and knowledge of the SEND process of Assess, Plan, Do and Review is desirable, as contributing to referrals, assessments and reporting on progress features strongly in this role.
The successful candidate will need a high level of resilience and a commitment to working as a team to support vulnerable children. There will also be opportunities to support children in their mainstream school. If you would welcome the opportunity to work in a supportive environment, where you have the capacity to build meaningful relationships with students in small teaching groups Victoria Drive would be delighted to hear from you.
What the school offers its staff
Victoria Drive is an,” Outstanding” and inspiring Primary Pupil Referral Unit that prides itself on the highly effective working partnership with Wandsworth Primary Schools. It uses a therapeutic, nurturing approach to support pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMHD). The core objective of the work is to sustain very low levels of exclusion by promoting the inclusion of pupils and strengthening schools’ capacity to respond to pupils’ needs.
The pupils’ interests, the National Curriculum and the Boxall Profile, will inform the learning you plan and deliver. We actively promote a holistic and trauma informed approach to support our pupils, obtain meaningful outcomes, raise achievement levels and improve self-esteem. You will have a high degree of emotional intelligence where the proactive support offered to parents allows the development of trusting relationships and non- judgemental, reflective conversations. You will understand that positive attachments are at the core of students achieving their best.
Our teachers have considerable autonomy, planning a relevant and engaging curriculum for a group of up to six students. Social, Emotional Aspects to Learning underpin the curriculum. Frequent off-site learning opportunities and outdoor activities are encouraged to broaden students’ horizons and make learning real and relevant. Teachers also plan and supervise social time, creating a safe and homely atmosphere, where students learn essential social skills.
There is a generous allocation of PPA and meeting time, high quality CPD and opportunities for reflective practice in recognition that we need to fully invest in our staff so that they can transform our students’ experience of education.
