Nurture Teacher job summary
Nurture Teacher (Secondary) required for our Communication and Interaction School
We are looking to recruit a secondary practitioner with a willingness to be adaptable to work within the primary or secondary phase with KS2 and /or 3.This would mean delivering their non subject specialism across classes and the potential for intervention teaching, with a focus on subject specialism, within Key Stage 4. For primary trained applicants this would mean utilising their knowledge of skills from the Primary curriculum to then extend knowledge of the Key Stage 3 curriculum within our setting. The classes are based on a nurture approach which means the young people are taught in the model of a primary classroom to limit transitionsions.

The role will include being a form tutor, planning and delivering learning within all areas of the secondary curriculum to a Key Stage 3 cohort of pupils. You will also plan and deliver our bespoke social communication curriculum and work with pupils to develop life skills that prepare them for their next phase of education.
The Fusion Academy, a school for children and young people aged 7-19 with communication and interaction needs and/or autism, supports 92 pupils. We are located in a purpose built school in Barwell. The Fusion Academy is part of a Multi Academy Trust called Open Thinking Partnership.
A flexible solution focussed approach to teaching young people of mainstream academic ability while addressing their communication and interaction barriers to learning is crucial.

The start date for this position is 20th August 2025 with possible induction during the summer break..

To come to The Fusion Academy, students must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that states communication and interaction and/ or autism as their primary area of need.
The Fusion Academy is not set up for young people with cognition and learning needs. It is designed for young people who, despite their difficulties around communication and interaction, have the potential to learn at an age appropriate level and will be looking to access qualifications and potential employment in the future.
