Occupational Therapist (Online) job summary

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Occupational Therapist to join our innovative National Online School. In this fully remote role, you will deliver therapeutic provision to a paediatric caseload, with pupils (aged 7-19) across the UK who are unable to access mainstream education.

The TCES National Online School delivers therapeutic education virtually to pupils with complex co-morbid needs, including pupils with neurodiverse identities and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) which present barriers to them accessing mainstream school-based education.

You will provide occupational assessments and interventions remotely to children and young people who access their learning hours through our online provision. Our Occupational Therapists, as part of the online multi-discipline therapy team, support staff to deliver a therapeutic learning environment for all pupils. Additionally our therapists hold a caseload of children with significant trauma and adverse childhood experience who require a more specific, bespoke, and at times intensive, input. To ensure a consistent therapeutic practice across the provision, you will work closely with the online teaching and inclusion teams to meet the needs of the young people they work with and support them to engage in learning; this can include providing advice on moderating the online learning environment, as well as scaffolding a therapeutic understanding & culture through training, workshops and general promotion of therapeutic practice to all staff.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:

  • A champion of therapeutic support and advocate for young people, with similar values to ours: Expect the very best from each other; Develop a strong work ethic; Respect and appreciate all difference; Include everyone and exclude no one; Listen to and involve everyone; Never give up on each other!
  • Resilient and robust, role modelling outstanding professionalism.
  • Hold HCPC registration with a recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification and further professional development accreditations.
  • Substantial demonstrable experience in successfully working with vulnerable young people, those with complex mental health needs and/or those with challenging behaviours.
  • The ability to plan and coordinate sessions online, proficient with communication and supporting sensory progress for pupils through universal and intensive therapeutic offers.
  • Proficient digital skills, including a good understanding of IT systems and the ability to use them effectively as a member of an online school.
  • Creative and innovative, whilst maintaining principles of clinical governance.
  • Organised with attention to detail.
  • Proactive and innovative, collaborating with team members in other disciplines, whilst also with the ability to work flexibly and independently.

In return we offer:

  • An opportunity to join a leading, accredited provider of online specialist education, directly contributing to the positive outcomes for pupils.
  • Competitive terms and conditions, with the opportunity to deliver clinical provision outside of TCES schools, as well as support train staff and parents in therapeutic principles through Great Minds Therapy and Training Services.
  • Continuing Professional Development: paid comprehensive training for all staff.
  • Remote working: staff can engage with a young person or class from anywhere in the UK.
  • IT equipment: Chromebooks and mobiles supplied as well as technical support where necessary.

TCES is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects all staff to share this commitment. The appointment is subject to all relevant checks such as references, medical clearance and a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.
