Outreach Teacher of Science & Maths job summary

We are looking to appoint an outstanding Maths and Science Teacher to work across North Devon as an Outreach Teacher. The successful candidate will embody the Trust values; someone who has diverse experience, as well as a passion for working with young people with additional needs.

Our ideal candidate will have excellent teamwork and communication skills, the ability and enthusiasm to make a difference with students who have a range of needs.

Outreach Teacher for Torlands is a unique role providing the opportunity to really make a difference. Working with pupils in the North Devon area (approx. 15 mile radius of Barnstaple) teaching Maths and Science to largely key stage 3 and 4 pupils. Occasionally working with key stage 2 pupils. All pupils are unable to attend mainstream school due to medical needs. The Outreach Teacher works with pupils in their home (always with another adult present), teaching 1:1 bespoke lessons. Meeting pupil need, ensuring progression at a level relevant to the pupil and playing a proactive role in safeguarding.

Lessons are generally 1 hour long, this part time role includes 13 hours of pupil contact time.

You will not be working in isolation, the Torlands team as part of the Wave Trust family is supportive and committed to working together; using ICT to support those who work remotely. Weekly online drop in sessions help staff collaborate and share best practice, half termly the staff body meet physically in Exeter. The North Devon team run frequent social ‘meet ups’ which are optional, but are recognised as a great way to share experiences, provide support and aid collaboration.
