Parent Support Advisor job summary

The Parent Support Advisor will be Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead on site.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Support for pupils

  • Support for teachers

  • Support for curriculum

  • Support for the school

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Promote high quality parenting, supporting parents by helping them to improve their parenting skills for example by running basic and specialist parenting classes and providing appropriate information or referrals through Early Help Plan processes and other routes.

  • Promote high levels of attendance.

  • Adopt the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, leading and managing referrals and partnership work with other agencies.

Parental Engagement:

  • To work with parents in a school context, supporting them and building their engagement with their child’s learning and progress.

  • Support parents and their children through transitions to ensure continual engagement with school and learning.

  • Ensure parents feel confident to engage with their child’s learning by arranging family learning opportunities at the school.

  • To work in partnership with the wider team to facilitate family learning opportunities.

  • To liaise with outside agencies to ensure up-to-date signposting for families who require additional support.

  • To identify further opportunities to promote good relationships with parents and to support any challenging circumstances they may encounter.

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead:

  • The deputy designated safeguarding lead should take responsibility for safeguarding and child protection (including online safety).

  • The role of the deputy designated safeguarding lead carries a significant level of responsibility and training, resources and support will be given to allow you to carry out the role effectively.

  • Additional responsibilities include providing advice and support to other staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters, taking part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, and/or supporting other staff to do so.

  • Demonstrate good understanding of all policies and procedures relating to child protection and safeguarding. Work with SLT to coordinate staff training to ensure policies and procedures are well understood and implemented across the academies. Work with SLT to undertake monitoring to ensure that policies and procedures are followed and develop action plans to ensure that staff are confident and competent in all aspects of safeguarding.

  • Support SLT to ensure that staff induction is comprehensive and ensure all staff are aware of expectations in relation to safeguarding and to maintain accurate training records to ensure all statutory training is completed within timeframes.

  • To attend and contribute to weekly safeguarding supervision to ensure that the safeguarding team have opportunity to discuss ongoing casework, to quality assure decision making and to monitor the completion of planned actions.
