Part-Time Executive Headteacher/School Improvement Partner job summary

Job Purpose:

The Executive Headteacher/School Improvement Partner will provide strategic leadership to the schools within the context of The Keys Academy Trust, a growing multi-academy trust with a strong inclusive ethos. This new role involves leading the school’s overall direction, ensuring high standards of education, spiritual development, and community engagement. The Executive Headteacher/School Improvement Partner will ensure that the Christian values of the Church of England permeate all aspects of school life, promoting an environment in which pupils thrive academically, spiritually, and personally.

In addition, the role includes contributing to the Trust’s wider school improvement work, supporting other school leaders to strengthen practice, develop leadership capacity and raise standards. This work will align closely with The Keys Academy Trust’s school improvement strategy and form part of a coordinated approach to securing high-quality education across all TKAT schools.

Reports to: CEO

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the school’s vision and values, ensuring alignment with The Keys Academy Trust's inclusive ethos and principles.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to set the school’s strategic direction, ensuring effective governance, clear accountability, and alignment with the wider goals of The Keys Academy Trust.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children in accordance with the Trust’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Strengthen the school’s relationship with the local church and wider community, ensuring that the school’s role within the community is nurtured and supported.

Educational Leadership:

  • Lead and oversee the development of the school’s curriculum, ensuring that it meets the needs of all pupils while reflecting the Christian ethos of the school.
  • Detailed and up-to-date knowledge in subject, national policy, classroom management strategies, inspection procedures and statutory requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, setting clear, ambitious goals for school improvement, in line with the values of The Keys Academy Trust.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, using data-driven decision-making to guide the school’s strategic direction and to raise academic standards.
  • Support the development of the senior leadership team, ensuring that professional development is aligned with the school’s strategic priorities and the broader goals of The Keys Academy Trust.

Spiritual and Pastoral Leadership:

  • Provide strategic guidance on pastoral care, ensuring that every pupil’s emotional, social, and spiritual needs are met within a supportive and nurturing environment.

For Executive Leadership in Church of England schools:

  • Model and promote the Christian values of the Church of England, ensuring that they are central to the life and culture of the school.
  • Lead and support implementation of the SIAMS framework ensuring that collective worship and spiritual development is embedded throughout the school’s operations.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with governors, CEO, TKAT Leaders and other key stakeholders to ensure the schools remains aligned with the values and strategic objectives of The Keys Academy Trust.
  • Support the Head of School to act as the public face of the school, promoting strong relationships with parents, local community members, local parish church and ODBE.
  • Promote collaboration with other schools in The Keys Academy Trust, facilitating shared learning and best practices to ensure the highest standards of education across the Trust.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) and proven experience of at least five year’s headship, ideally within a Church of England school.
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the ethos of The Keys Academy Trust and the Church of England’s educational values.
  • Experience in leading school improvement at a strategic level, with a track record of raising standards and improving academic achievement.
  • Experience of working with Governors to shape and implement school strategy.
  • Experience of leading successful Ofsted Inspections (and SIAMS Inspections if leadership has been in a Church of England school).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in educational leadership and strategic management.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both staff and pupils to work towards shared goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, parents, governors, and the wider community.
  • Proven ability to think strategically, set ambitious goals, and guide the school’s development through data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to promote and maintain a strong Christian ethos, ensuring it is reflected in all aspects of school life If the Executive Leadership is within a Church of England school)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding protocols and child protection legislation.

  • A deep understanding of the Church of England’s educational philosophy and how it underpins the work of The Keys Academy Trust.

The role is based in the Trust Central Team at Earley St Peter’s CE Primary School and there will be a requirement to travel to the schools across the Wokingham/Bracknell area.
