We are looking for a Pastoral and Behavioural Assistant to join our Pastoral Team here at King Offa Primary Academy. The role contributes to the effective pastoral care of all pupils and promotes high expectations and standards of behaviour in school.

The Pastoral Team is led by the school’s Pastoral Manager, who reports directly to the SENCO, and comprises of staff focused on emotional literacy and supporting children to understand their executive functional skills. The team also liaises closely with the school’s Attendance Officer and other external agencies.

Key duties will include:

· Supporting the learning of small groups of individuals, with a varying range of learning needs and abilities.

· Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with pupils and colleagues, parents, and carers.

· Be committed to the school’s ethos of building positive behaviour skills through emotional literacy and lead small group and individual sessions, under the direction of the Pastoral Manager and SENCO.

· Promote the positive behaviour of all pupils in the classroom, during emotional literacy sessions, and on the playground, using strategies to manage behaviour effectively, including through 1:1 and small group support.

· Promote the acceptance and inclusion of all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, with SEND or other behavioural issues, encouraging pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.

· Carry out and report on systematic observations of pupils to gather evidence of their knowledge, progress, understanding, and skills, upon which the teacher makes judgements about their stage of development.

We can offer you:

  • An excellent environment to work and learn in.
  • A committed and supportive staff team.
  • Access to Aurora Academies Trust’s bespoke plan for professional development.
  • Opportunities to work collaboratively with other schools in the Trust.
  • Aurora Advantage Scheme, which includes access to GP appointments, wellbeing support, high-street discounts, Cycle-to-Work scheme, and more.

The salary shown reflects an interim 2024/2025 pay award, pending completion of the negotiations between the National Employers and the Trade Unions. The difference between this and what is agreed as the final pay award will be paid as a lump sum back pay, when announced by the government and the Trade Unions.

We reserve the right to shortlist and interview on application, so early application is recommended.

King Offa school has been at the heart of its community for over a hundred years and is a well recognised landmark in Bexhill. The building provides spacious classrooms and an inviting environment for pupils and staff to work together and learn within. Outside we have extensive playground space; an outdoor covered classroom area; a large field and a swimming pool which is used in the Summer term to provide opportunities for every child in the school to learn to swim.

Children at King Offa are provided with high-quality learning. Outstanding provision means that pupils are engaged and demonstrate high levels of motivation, resilience, empathy, enquiry and are happy to take risks.

Our recently redesigned curriculum ensures that our teaching actively engages pupils to deepen and embed key concepts and skills as well as the transfer of knowledge across the curriculum.

We work in partnership with Hackney Learning Trust to deliver Daily Supported Reader and Destination Reader and have invested in Reading Recovery and BRP (Boosting readers @ primary) as an integral part of our approach to reading. In addition, we teach phonics from nursery using the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc programme.

We have adopted a mastery approach to the teaching of mathematics where we follow White Rose Maths schemes of learning to ensure a coherent, consistent approach to maths is adopted in all year groups. Importantly we focus on allowing opportunities for our pupils to explore concrete, pictorial and abstract approaches to maths.

Sussex Music School works closely with our school to build a culture of music from within and provide high quality curriculum music. Our children have the opportunity to learn to play recorder, ukulele and drums within lessons, and private instrumental lessons are also available. Our expert teachers support community events such as Summer sing and Big Sing all held at our local De La Warr pavilion.

We are working with REAL PE to deliver an inclusive PE curriculum which creates habits and develops essential behaviours, physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills in every child.

King Offa Primary Academy & Nursery is part of Aurora Academies Trust. Our seven schools spanning nursery, primary and secondary provision are all judged to be good or better by Ofsted.
