Pastoral Care Lead job summary

The governors of St. Margaret Mary School are seeking to appoint a committed and motivated individual to join our team and take responsibility for pastoral and welfare support for the pupils and families in our school. We are looking for someone to work closely with the school leadership team to support our children and families in a non-judgemental manner, promoting positive attitudes to learning and behaviour amongst all. The successful candidate will recognise the vital importance of school and be as committed as we are to ensuring all children attend, work well when they are here, and receive all necessary support they require in order to do so.

The Pastoral Care Lead will play a key role in promoting students’ well-being, personal development and progress through high-quality pastoral support. To do this, you will need to work effectively with a range of professionals within school, including class teachers, TAs, the SENDCo, the school leadership team and school governors, a commitment to teamwork is essential. There will be close working with external agencies, so a commitment to confidentiality and high professional standards is vital. You will also liaise with parents/carers on safeguarding and welfare issues, so good communication skills and a non-confrontational style is crucial. Whilst experience of working with children who have additional support needs will be beneficial, an unflinching desire to support our most vulnerable families is the characteristic we most wish to see in any successful applicant.

We anticipate that this post may be of interest to those with a background in education or Children’s Services (including wider welfare and support services) and would welcome applications from those with experience of either.
