Pastoral Manager - Years 9-11

Essex 2026 Scale 6, Point 14 - 18 (£25,868.11 - £27,616.95 pa actual)

37 hours per week, 38.6 weeks per year (term time plus 3 Holiday/inset days to be determined upon appointment)

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated individual to join our pastoral team, working closely with the Assistant Headteacher and Heads of Year to champion the personal development, engagement and success of students in Years 9-11.

This is far more than a traditional pastoral role. We are looking for someone who understands that students achieve their academic potential when they feel supported, challenged and inspired. You will play a key role in helping young people develop the confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes that enable them to thrive in school and prepare successfully for their future.

Working collaboratively with staff, students, parents, carers and external agencies, you will identify and remove barriers to learning, promote excellent attendance and behaviour, and provide targeted support that enables every student to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

If you are passionate about making a lasting difference to young people's lives and believe that personal development is at the heart of educational success, we would love to hear from you.

The Pastoral Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring every student is able to engage fully in school life and achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will:

  • Remove barriers that impact learning, attendance and engagement.
  • Promote high expectations for behaviour, attendance and personal conduct supporting Heads of Year ensuring behaviour standards are upheld and sanctions applied where necessary.

  • Work in partnership with families, colleagues and external agencies to secure the very best outcomes for every student.
  • Support students in becoming confident, responsible and successful young people who are well prepared for the next stage of education and beyond.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential.
  • Understands the vital connection between personal development and academic achievement.
  • Builds positive, respectful relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • Is calm, resilient and solution-focused when managing challenging situations.
  • Can balance multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of organisation.
  • Has experience of working with children and young people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding and ensuring every student feels valued and supported.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who believes that every interaction with a young person is an opportunity to embed our core school values of Leadership, Scholarship, Enrichment and Kindness.
