Cams Hill School is a caring, supportive and friendly school community with a strong commitment to working collaboratively to secure the very best outcomes for our pupils. We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated Pastoral Officer to join our pastoral team, with a focus on behaviour, inclusion, intervention and home-school liaison. This is a busy, varied and rewarding role at the heart of our provision for pupils in Years 7-11.

The successful applicant will oversee the school’s referral room, ensuring it is a calm, structured and supportive environment where pupils can complete work to a high standard and take part in restorative processes. The role also involves supporting pupils’ reintegration into lessons, coordinating and administering the centralised detention system, and working closely with families and external agencies to promote engagement, inclusion and improved behaviour. As part of the home-school link element of the role, the postholder will undertake planned home visits, in line with safeguarding procedures, to strengthen family relationships and support improved engagement. In addition, the postholder will be responsible for accurate data tracking across all relevant areas of their role, requiring strong IT skills and the ability to learn and use the school’s Management Information System (MIS) confidently.

Applicants should be strong communicators who are organised, empathetic and solution-focused, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues. They must be confident in working both independently and as part of a wider pastoral team. Experience of working with young people with a range of needs is desirable, although full training will be provided.

Key requirements include:

Commitment to working to a high standard to support positive behaviour, inclusion and pupil success

Excellent organising, planning and prioritising skills

Patience and assertiveness

Ability to work well under pressure and to work to tight deadlines

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with pupils, parents/carers, staff and external professionals

Good standard of literacy and attention to detail

Competence in IT and the ability to learn and use the school’s Management Information System (MIS) for data tracking and reporting

A “can do” attitude

Ability to work constructively as part of a team

Driving licence and access to own vehicle

If you are passionate about supporting young people, promoting positive behaviour and working closely with families to overcome barriers to learning, we would be delighted to hear from you.
