Pastoral Support Advisor job summary

As Pastoral Support Advisor (PSA) at Stowford School, you will take a lead role in providing high quality and effective safeguarding and pastoral support across the school, maintaining accurate records and working with staff, pupils, parents and external agencies to ensure appropriate plans and strategies are in place to support pupils and their families. You will provide individual support where needed, lead peer to peer mentoring and deliver small group interventions to meet the needs of pupils. As PSA you will be a vital link between home and school, providing empathetic, practical support to families facing challenges that impact their child’s learning, wellbeing, or attendance.


The PSA will:

Work closely with the Headteacher, Deputy Head, and Assistant Head/SENDCo to deliver impactful family support

Act as a Designated Safeguarding Officer, ensuring the safety and welfare of our pupils.

Build trusting relationships with families, staff, and external agencies to create a cohesive support network.

Support our excellent attendance record through early intervention and collaboration.

Offer one-to-one guidance, signposting to external services, including Early Help, MHST and MAST.

Take a lead role in managing and delivering pastoral support to pupils; deliver interventions to groups or individuals, including those with SEN, to meet their needs.

Lead peer to peer mentoring programmes across the school, focused on social interactions during play/lunchtimes, including ‘Chill Zone’ at lunchtimes.

The ideal candidate will be:

Experienced or trained as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or show willing to receive a high level of training for this role.

Resilient, approachable, and able to maintain a positive outlook with a sense of humour.

Passionate about supporting children and families from diverse backgrounds.

An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
