Fred Nicholson School is a Complex Needs School meeting the needs of young people with learning difficulties and associated needs from 7yrs-18yrs. Our pupils learn through an EYFS and Primary based curriculum in line with their cognitive ability.

We are looking for a committed and caring Pastoral Support Assistant to support the Safeguarding and Attendance Lead to enable pupils, particularly the most disadvantaged, to have full access to educational opportunities and overcome barriers to learning and participation.

This role will work in partnership with families, parents, carers and pupils focusing their work on preventative and early intervention activities, offering support and guidance in a non-judgemental way.

Working Hours & Salary:

·      37 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 8.30am – 4.30pm and Friday 8.30am – 4.00pm.

The additional 2 weeks will be worked as:

  • 5 days - directed professional development days
  • 5 days – as agreed during the school holiday period to meet the needs of the role.

·      Paid at Scale E from £21,907 to £23,871 actual pa

·      Permanent role, 6-month probation period including a staff induction programme

  • Have knowledge of available support services and referral routes and an awareness of the legislation affecting school attendance requirements.
  • have good people skills, can build positive, professional relationships and communicate effectively with families, children and external agencies and show commitment to working in a caring, supportive team.
  • have a commitment to training - we are committed to our investment in staff and you will access an induction programme, whole school CPD opportunities and any further training that may be appropriate to your role.
  • You will also need a level of resilience and a sense of humour.

Please note: Whilst Fred Nicholson School is currently based in Dereham we will be relocated to Lynn Road, Swaffham in 2026.
