Job Title: Pastoral Support Officer

Actual Annual Salary: £27,362 - £29,850. Based on 37 hours per week, term time only. 

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £31,954 - £34,860 (CLF Grade D). Based on 37 hours per week, all year round.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday / Term time only + 5 inset days

We are seeking a committed and compassionate Pastoral Support Officer to join our academy team and play a vital role in supporting students’ wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and personal development.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is highly skilled at building trusting relationships and is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build positive, professional relationships with students, parents/carers, academy colleagues and external agencies.
  • Provide 1:1 and group-based support for designated students, using appropriate interventions to promote social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviour in line with academy policies and procedures.
  • Monitor students’ health, welfare and individual learning needs, sharing relevant information with colleagues as required.
  • Work closely with pastoral and educational support teams to monitor attendance and punctuality, implementing interventions where necessary.
  • Act as a first point of contact for parents/carers, maintaining regular communication regarding student progress, needs and targets.
  • Support students experiencing disruption to learning through mentoring and targeted intervention.
  • Proactively address incidents of bullying and support investigations to ensure fair and appropriate outcomes.
  • Manage child protection disclosures and pastoral concerns sensitively and in line with safeguarding policies.
  • Communicate effectively via phone, email and text, adapting communication style to suit different audiences and situations.

You will demonstrate:

  • A good understanding of safeguarding within an educational setting or transferable knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining good relationships with students and having appropriate contact with families and carers of children.
  • A keen interest in working with children and young people and a commitment to improving the life chances of students.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement through professional development, self-evaluation, and awareness.
