Pastoral Support Officer job summary
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Pastoral Support Officer to join our school community, which is built on the core value of ‘Excellence for All’. Melbourn Village College is committed to ensuring that every young person aspires to succeed both academically and personally, developing the confidence and character to reach their full potential. We are looking for someone who truly believes that every child can achieve high levels of success—both academically and pastorally.
A core element of this role will be working under the directive of a Head of Key Stage, supporting students through team building, character development, resilience, and raising aspirations, with a particular focus on boys as a priority group. The successful candidate would be at an advantage if they have experience working with disaffected boys, helping them to re-engage with school life and unlock their potential. This is a hands-on, operational role requiring the ability to respond to a fast-paced environment with changing priorities throughout the day.
The ideal candidate will be proactive in spotting trends and behaviours among young people, including safeguarding concerns, and must have a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality. A high level of flexibility is essential to respond effectively to the varying needs of students and the school day. Experience in motivating young people, ideally with coaching qualifications or a background in health, fitness, or youth development, is highly desirable. You will act as a positive role model, promoting inclusion, empathy, and respect across the school community. Experience in conflict resolution and fostering environments that break down stereotypes is essential. Above all, you will be skilled at building strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them to thrive in all aspects of school life and to believe in their own potential.
