What skills and experience we're looking for

This role will support the welfare and progress of students in their learning, behaviour and transitions as well as lead on pastoral support to pupils, providing advice and guidance and implementing agreed plans to encourage learning and overcome barriers to learning. The post holder will work with students in school who are experiencing complex emotionally demanding situations due to outside influences, requiring sensitivity.

The right candidate will:

  • Have an understanding of supporting pupils with SEND needs and/or significant social, emotional and mental health difficulties is desirable.
  • Be supportive, nurturing and understanding.
  • Have high expectations of learning and behaviour.
  • Be able to inspire and motivate our pupils.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (both written and orally)

We are looking to appoint a Pastoral Support Officer for 37 hours per week on a term time, fixed term basis until 31 August 2023 to join our team at The Compass Academy.

The Compass Alternative Provision Academy is a member of the Sentamu Academy Learning Trust (SALT) situated to the north of Hull with open aspects. It also sits on the boundary of the East Riding, very close to the village of Wawne. It provides Alternative Provision education to students aged between 11 and 14. The academy provides a warm and friendly environment with staff and governors working together to provide a happy, secure and caring environment.
