PE Apprentice job summary
KEY PURPOSE Working under the overall supervision and direction of the PE Lead you will be required to ensure safe practices are observed at all times to: Ensure PE/Sports facilities and equipment are safe for use Maintain and provide the safe storage of equipment Assist teaching staff with practical activities/classes Demonstrate sporting techniques and use of equipment Provide general clerical support and undertake basic record keeping as required.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibility for people (other than employees supervised/managed): The post has some impact on the well-being of individuals or groups ie physical, mental, social, health & safety and providing support to pupils with additional personal/special needs. Responsibility for staff: The post has limited direct responsibility for supervising other staff though may be expected to demonstrate tasks or advise/guide new employees, work experience or trainees. Responsibility for physical resources: The post has some direct responsibility for physical resources, through the preparation and care of teaching materials/resources and secure and accurate record keeping. Day to day maintenance of equipment and/or ordering stack and control of a limited range of supplies and the use of a minibus Curriculum support: Maintain a clean and orderly working environment, including outdoor sporting facilities Prepare and set up equipment/resources as instructed for lessons, activities and demonstrations Move sporting equipment in to place Store equipment/resources safely Order and maintain PE department supplies/stock/clothing Clean equipment and wash kits Maintain and check equipment/supplies are in good order and safe to use, organizing repairs or servicing as necessary Maintain first aid kit Collect, secure and return students valuables Ensure the relevant regulations, eg health & safety and sporting are applied and observed Clerical duties – eg maintenance of statistics, student achievement, putting up displays, word processing, photocopying Arrange sports fixtures and transport Administer sports clothing Authorise non-participation of PE for medical reasons Assist with planning and organizing school sporting activities/events within school and inter school Act as sports coach, referee for extra-curricular activities Understand the place of ICT in PE and sport Act as a mentor to students Job Description Page 7 of 11 Act as scorer for matches Collect and record monies received Maintain basis records Assist with supervision of pupils at sporting activities both during the school day and extra curricular Assist in the delivery of lessons/sessions and interact with the teacher and pupils as required Support individuals or groups during independent /group work, e.g. explain tasks, reinforce key objectives/concepts or vocabulary, use practical apparatus, support less able pupils, extend/challenge more able, keep pupils on task, interested, motivated and engaged. Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils, encourage them to interact and work cooperatively and engage in activities. Promote independence and development of self-esteem Assist in the personal, social, emotional development of pupils and development of self-esteem. Identify and report uncharacteristic behaviour patterns Assist with pupil supervision on trips off the premises, under overall guidance of the teacher. Monitor and provide for general care, safety and welfare of pupils, including tasks connected with their social inclusion and personal/physical care. Monitor individual/group achievements of key objectives and provide feedback to the teacher Contribute to pupil assessment through observation and reporting Record information relevant to assessment and review of pupils’ progress Support implementation of strategies to manage pupil behaviour and help manage pupil behaviou
