What skills and experience we're looking for

At Hutton Church of England Grammar School and Sixth Form, our Christian ethos is at the heart of everything we do. We particularly value Koinonia — a spirit of community, fellowship, and shared life — and we strive to follow Christ’s example of humility, service, and love.

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic PE Coach and Cover Supervisor, with a particular advantage for those with experience coaching rugby. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about education, sport, and building strong, supportive relationships within a Christian community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes and deliver pre-prepared lessons during teacher absence.
  • Deliver engaging and inclusive PE sessions, including rugby coaching where appropriate.
  • Manage student behaviour and maintain a positive, respectful learning environment.
  • Support extra-curricular sport activities, fixtures, and events.
  • Contribute to the life of the school community, embodying the spirit of Koinonia.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people.
  • Has strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Holds a sports coaching qualification or has relevant experience in PE.
  • Has experience coaching rugby (advantageous but not essential).
  • Is adaptable, positive, and professional.
  • Values teamwork, inclusion, humility, and service within a Christian ethos.

Desirable:

  • PE/Sports Science degree, coaching badges, or equivalent sports qualifications.
  • First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training).

What the school offers its staff

We offer:

  • A welcoming and supportive staff team built on Christian values.
  • Opportunities for CPD and career development.
  • A chance to make a real difference in students' academic and physical development.
