What skills and experience we're looking for
Generic to Position:
- To drive teaching and learning across the department, working closely with other colleagues.
- To work closely with the Director of Health and Wellbeing to plan, implement and deliver an appropriately broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils and ensure that the implementation of this has the desired impact
- To be an effective line manager, ensuring that the PE department vision for excellence is embedded across the department in liaison with the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
- To draw upon research outcomes and other sources of external evidence to inform best practice and that of colleagues and implement these across areas of practice.
- To collaboratively lead department meetings.
- To build effective links with other organisations so that pupils’ knowledge, understanding and opportunities within PE and Sport is enhanced.
- To contribute to the professional development of colleagues and advise of best practice regarding teaching and learning in both practical and classroom settings.
Strategic Responsibilities:
- Review and refine the curriculum, planning, teaching and assessment in PE along with the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
- To work alongside external organisations such as the Youth Sports Trust and the Association of PE to further embed and develop external opportunities that can support our students.
- Contribute to evaluating the progress made in achieving subject targets and evaluate the impact of teaching and learning.
- Scrutinise data to identify underperformance and lead on strategies to address any issues arising.
- To work alongside the subject lead to create an engaging extended school activities offer, manage the implementation of the programme and evaluate impact where appropriate.
- To lead, promote and monitor the implementation of enrichment opportunities within the department
- Quality assure provision and monitor standards of learning, teaching and engagement in PE along with the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
- Co-ordinate and contribute to regular curriculum review within the department as necessary and oversee their implementation
Operational Duties
- Monitor and intervene on behaviour across the school to ensure that students are consistently meeting MCA expectations.
- Develop strong and positive relationships between parents and the school so as to promote students’ learning in a spirit of partnership, providing information to parents about targets, progress and interventions.
- Support staff through professional development and feedback following Quality Assurance of teaching and learning, feedback and classroom management
Teaching and Learning
- As an outstanding classroom practitioner, to model excellence in the classroom and beyond.
- Teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate and inspire so students enjoy and achieve.
- Ensure that technology is used effectively to support learning.
- Maintain accurate pupil data that can be used to make teaching more effective.
- Ensure a high-quality learning experience for all students.
