People Officer job summary
Do you love people and policies? Can you switch from drafting a crystal‑clear HR letter to coaching a school leader through a tricky situation — all before your second cup of coffee? If so, we want to meet you.
At Exceed Academies Trust, our People Team is at the heart of supporting brilliant staff across our schools and central team. We’re looking for an experienced and energised People Officer to join us — someone who blends professionalism with personality and who truly enjoys making a difference.
As part of this pivotal role, the successful candidate will provide first line HR/People advice on everything from attendance and performance to conduct, capability and pay. Another key element of the role will involve supporting our senior leaders with interpreting employment law, Trust policies and national/local conditions of service, to ensure they are able to support and advise staff members accordingly. Our People Team have excellent working relationships with Trade Union colleagues and due to this regular communication and collaboration, our staff feel even better supported and well informed.
As a member of the People Team, you will work on a hybrid basis between home, our head office and our various schools/settings, whilst having the autonomy to manage your own case work portfolio. This role is ideally all year round but we can be flexible, and would welcome candidates who may wish to work term time only/term time only plus additional days.
Let’s exceed expectations — together.
What you will bring to the role:
- A high level of confidence advising on HR/People matters
- Be curious, proactive and solutions focused
- Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Have strong organisation and planning skills, with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines
- The ability to build strong relationships across varied settings
- Be CIPD qualified, or working towards qualification
If you’re the kind of person who likes getting stuck in, taking initiative and keeping things moving — we think you’ll fit in really well.
What we can offer:
- You will be joining a fantastic central team of colleagues, along with a supportive team of school leaders, governors, staff and parents
- A hybrid working model
- A healthy work/life balance
- Opportunities for further development
- Free parking at all of our settings/schools
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme 24/7
- Excellent employer pension contribution scheme
If you have any questions about this role, or would like an initial, confidential discussion, then please give our Deputy Chief People Officer, Laura Armitage, a call.
