Key Professional Responsibilities
Teaching Role
- To be a fully qualified secondary or primary teacher with recent relevant teaching experience.
- Experience working with pupils with EHCPs and SEND.
- To teach challenging, well-organised lessons, making effective use of assessment strategies to promote independent learning and using the school marking policy.
- You will need to be flexible, adaptable and able to work across our setting at the hospital, PRU and at pupils’ homes as needed.
- You will have experience of using the graduated approach (plan, do, review, assess) to deliver impactful intervention for children with SEND.
- To identify strategies and resources to support the agreed programme.
- To maintain a calm, orderly learning environment with due regard for health and safety.
- To provide care, guidance and support as appropriate or required.
- To establish a positive and professional working relationship with pupils, parents, schools and outside agencies.
- To support reintegration programmes for pupils returning to school or entering college, where appropriate.
- To maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of relevant curriculum developments for main subject.
- To be accountable for the academic and social progress of the children in their care.
- To participate in the LA Appraisal process and undertake professional development to meet needs identified in performance management objectives.
- To make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of MERIT.
Planning, Assessment and Record Keeping
- To deliver well planned lessons within the designated subject area.
- To maintain records of each lesson, identifying its objectives, strategies used and outcomes.
- To keep appropriate records of pupils’ progress to inform parents, schools and representatives of other services as and when requested.
- To complete reports for each pupil, which will be made available to parents/carers, schools and representatives of other services as appropriate.
- To provide other relevant paperwork as requested.
Liaison
- To liaise with representatives of the school where the pupil is on roll.
- To liaise, when necessary, with representatives of support services.
- To attend review meetings and case conferences.
- To advise the Co-Teacher-in-Charge of any concerns over a pupil’s attendance, work or social circumstances.
- To attend Staff meetings

We are seeking an outstanding Peripatetic SEND Teacher with primary or secondary experience. In this unique role, you will lead the provision of SEND and Intervention across the school including our hospital classroom. Why Merit? Unlike most alternative provision, we mirror a mainstream curriculum with an academic focus and pupils studying for 7 GCSE in recognised EBacc subjects. Merit pupils go on to study at all levels, with many going on to University.
We are proud of our GCSE results which align with some of the best in the city. In the last year exams were taken, 50% of pupils gained a grade 4 or above in Maths.
