Job description

The successful candidate will support student well-being and progress, provide careers guidance to assist student progression into apprenticeships & university and manage the Higher Education Progression Partnership for South Yorkshire (HeppSY+) project to increase the numbers of students progressing to higher education.

You will be a highly skilled practitioner who understands the challenges of support services in a fast paced, student-focused environment where conflicting demands are the norm. Effective communication and team working is absolutely critical to the UTC’s success.

Essential educational requirements

Level 3 qualification or demonstrable suitable experience at this level.

Level 6 qualification (degree or equivalent) or demonstrable suitable experience at this level.

Qualification in careers information, advice and guidance or willingness to undertake.

Level 2 English and Maths.

Essential skills and experience

Experience of monitoring learner progress in ways that deliver excellent outcomes.
Experience of providing pastoral support including doing 1:1 support sessions with Post-16 students.
Experience of working with other agencies serving Post-16 students e.g. schools, youth service, social services, voluntary sector.
Ability to obtain and verify information about learner’s educational achievements and needs, and to develop a comprehensive profile of learner’s educational achievements and needs.
Ability to help learners to transfer their learning to other parts of their lives.
Ability to provide a good role model to learners.
Ability to work in an effective partnership with UTC staff, parents/carers and other agencies.
Sound organisational and basic work skills including working to deadlines, record-keeping.
Empathy with young people facing barriers to their learning.
Ability to operate safeguarding procedures to best effect.
