What skills and experience we're looking for
Our ideal candidate must provide evidence of the following in their supporting statement:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent*;
- Have GCSE’s in English, Mathematics & Science at grades 4 (C) or above or equivalent as required by the University of Buckingham*;
- Demonstrate a proficiency in English and Mathematics;
- Have experience of working with children, in an employment or voluntary capacity.

Apply for our Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA) with PGCE, get paid while you train, and join an inspiring group of recent graduates and career changers.
Alongside working full-time in a STEP Academy, the PGTA is delivered by the University of Buckingham. This programme is grounded in the evidence base of how children learn, how we can work to close the disadvantage gap, and strategies to support classroom management.
From September, you will be the Class Teacher, working with experienced teachers to help all pupils reach their full potential.
By the end of the year, successful applicants will secure:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Teacher Apprenticeship (Level 6)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE, Level 7)

*Please note
- If you are due to complete your bachelor’s degree in advance of starting the programme, you will be required to provide details in your supporting statement.
- If you have completed your secondary education outside the UK, you will be required to obtain a UK ENIC Statement of Comparability to confirm that your qualifications are equivalent to GCSEs in English, Mathematics and Science.
- The ENIC statement must clearly confirm equivalency to GCSE Grades 4 (C) or above;
- English, Mathematics and Science must be listed individually;
- We are unable to assess overseas qualifications without official ENIC confirmation.
