The children, parents, staff and governors are looking to appoint an inspirational Preschool Manager who is driven, ambitious, knowledgeable and creative, to nurture and develop our youngest pupils in school. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dependable practitioner to join our team and support children to make rapid gains in their learning and development, both personally and academically.
Part of our vision is to find dedicated educators to facilitate our vibrant curriculum and deliver high quality support in a nurturing environment. The candidate appointed will need to have knowledge and experience of working with external professionals, including Pre-5 Service, and have knowledge of assessment, including the statutory 2 year progress check, and have strong understanding of developing children’s communication and language skills.
The successful candidate will need to: create a stimulating learning environment, where children are appreciated and valued - thus underpinning our core values; be confident in leading discussions with parents, building positive relationships by sharing children’s successes, developmental needs and leading parents meetings; have knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant training to keep children in the setting safe.
We are looking for a practitioner with: expertise in the Early Years setting, knowledge of the the Early Years curriculum and statutory framework and will utilise their strengths and skillset to benefit our pupils; a passion for outdoor learning and experiences; ability to lead a team of professionals to work collaboratively to achieve the schools vision and offer the very best opportunities for our children in Preschool. The right candidate should be committed to further developing our setting and ensure that pupils are central to everything they do.
The successful candidate will need to be able to commit to the setting so that high quality learning environments are developed and high standards are maintained at all times.

Further information about the job
Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary School will endeavour to provide excellence to all its partners; children, parents, staff, governors and the local community. At SHMPS we are a family; it is our sole intention to provide an educational home where children feel safe, nurtured and challenged. A home where they have consistent boundaries, which allows for a culture of respect, ambition and a curiosity to learn instinctively.
We strive to be placed at the centre of the Castleford community, building relationships within the locality to help our children build their own bright futures. We aim to provide opportunities and experiences that will create long lasting memories and also a pride in having been a pupil at SMHPS. We will continue to work with our parents by supporting them to create mindful citizens, equipped with core values and knowledge which will enable them to play a fundamental part in the future of Castleford’s community.
This starts with an early education of the highest standard and this is what we aim to provide. There is nothing more important to us than supporting every child to achieve their full potential through a bespoke, varied curriculum - carefully created to meet the needs of every child. In our latest Ofsted inspection, where we were judged to be Good with Outstanding personal development, it was recognised that “the Headteacher and staff have developed a school curriculum that is ambitious for pupils”.
Our school Motto, “If you believe, you can achieve”, supports our children to believe in themselves. As part of this, we have developed our school ethos of: “The Smawthorne Experience” where all partners are proud of our school and the experiences gained. Please view our website to see the wide range of visits, visitors and experiences on offer to our pupils.
Commitment to safeguarding
Wakefield Council is wholly committed to ensuring children and young people are fully supported and safe. We are dedicated to the safeguarding of all children and young people whilst promoting their welfare and expect all staff and volunteers to share this responsibility.
