What skills and experience we're looking for
At The Northumberland Church of England Academy, we are committed to creating a nurturing, diverse, and inclusive learning environment where both staff and students can thrive. As part of our ongoing drive to provide the best possible education, we are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity within the primary phase at the Trust.
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate primary SENDCo to join our team and work alongside the Headteacher and Primary Director of SEND in leading the development and implementation of SEND provision across the Trust. Whether you are an experienced school SENDCo or a dedicated teacher (Qualified Teacher Status) eager to step into this role, we encourage you to apply. Currently holding the NASENCo/NPQSEND qualification is not essential, and we are committed to offering professional development, including statutory training and regular coaching from the Trust.
As the new SENDCo, you will be part of a collaborative team of Primary SENDCos led by our Director of SEND. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our most vulnerable pupils, helping to meet their unique needs and ensuring that they receive the support they deserve. With a focus on early identification and collaboration with parents, carers, and external professionals, we work hard to create a caring environment where every child can flourish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Director of SEND in delivering the Trust’s vision, including its Christian character, to raise achievement for learners of all abilities.
- Develop and maintain systems for identifying, assessing, and reviewing SEND provision.
- Plan and deliver inspiring lessons that cater to the diverse needs of our pupils.
- Engage with parents, attending consultation evenings and keeping them informed of their child’s progress.
- Drive innovative and inclusive practice in SEND provision, ensuring that individual learner needs are met.
There may be other roles available, however this position will primarily be based at Bishop’s Primary School, but you may be asked to contribute to other sites within the Trust in the future.
What the school offers its staff
An outward-facing school with strong ties to the local community and beyond.
A strong partnership within the Trust, and opportunity to work collaboratively with other schools.
A welcoming, inclusive environment that prioritises the growth and development of both staff and students.
Work alongside a passionate team in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Take part in professional development and gain relevant statutory training.
Be part of a dynamic school senior leadership team and contribute to our vision of excellence.
Help shape the SEND provision that supports pupils from their early years through to Year 6.
Staff are a crucial part of our Trust, just like our pupils. We are devoted to recruiting, training, retaining and taking good care of our highly skilled and dedicated team.
Commitment to safeguarding
Northumberland Church of England Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
