What skills and experience we're looking for

We are recruiting a Primary Teacher to join our team of specialist SEN teachers. As a Primary Teacher at Northcott School, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and personalised lessons that meet the needs and interests of your pupils. You will work closely with Little Blossoms Team who work with our youngest pupils using Early Years Framework; lead your team of primary teaching assistants; liaise with therapists and other professionals to ensure that each student receives the best possible support and guidance. You will also contribute to the development of the school’s curriculum, policies, and practices, and participate in ongoing training and professional development. Our primary pupils do not do SATS however they do follow the primary national curriculum, which is personalised and adapted to meet their needs.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent)• Experience of teaching in a primary setting, preferably with students with ASD or other special educational needs• A good understanding of the principles and practices of autism education, or a willingness to learn and develop your skills in this area• A creative and flexible approach to teaching and learning, with the ability to adapt and personalise learning to different learning styles and abilities• A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with the ability to motivate and inspire your students• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

What the school offers its staff

Northcott School and Sixth form College is an outstanding and oversubscribed special school, taking children from ages 3 to 19, with a current PAN of 200. All our pupils have an EHCP with a diagnosis of ASD and or significant needs with speech, language, communication and interaction. We have ambitions to grow our primary provision and see this appointment as crucial to the future development of our primary.

Northcott School is a special needs school based in Hull. We are an SLCN/ASD school for pupils aged 3 to 19. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced SEN teachers and support staff, to observe and share practice on a regular basis, developing SEN skills linked to ASD and communication.
