Principal job summary

Castle View is a Secondary Academy serving the families of Paulsgrove, north Portsmouth. It is a thriving 11-16 secondary school at the heart of its local community with around 550 pupils on roll. The school has transformed since joining United Learning. Leaders have created an inclusive and caring school environment, with a strong focus on personal development. This supports the delivery of a broad and ambitious curriculum, which provides pupils with the knowledge and skills to be successful in their lives after school. Ofsted recognised the school’s significant strengths when it was inspected in the summer of 2022 - ‘At the very heart of Castle View Academy is a desire for all pupils to achieve excellence and for them to be ambitious, determined and respectful.’

The current Principal has set the foundations of a strong curriculum, good behaviour and respectful relationships. As he moves on to a new and exciting challenge locally, we are looking for an ambitious and visionary successor to build on Castle View’s success and continue to improve standards and outcomes at the school. The new Principal will have the commitment, tenacity and empathy to bring pupils, parents, staff and the wider community with them, as they strive to make the academy truly exceptional. They will be committed to the highest standards and expectations for all pupils, including and especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

United Learning is a big group of schools – with over 60,000 pupils and more than 9,000 staff – so we have the capacity to support you educationally and operationally.  At the same time, we are values-led and base all that we do on good relationships, so you will be joining a big family.  Reporting directly to the Regional Director, you will be supported both personally and professionally, benefitting from the strength of a national group supporting your development and that of your staff and school.

We are committed to fairness, diversity and inclusion.  We are currently working hard to improve representation of black, Asian and minority ethnic leaders at headship level and to raise our proportion of women leaders to match their representation in our wider workforce.  Whoever you are, if you have a strong track record of improving young people’s education and a drive to do more, we very much look forward to hearing from you.

If you are looking for an exciting and highly rewarding role within a Group that offers excellent professional development, and if you have a strong commitment to improving the lives of all young people, we encourage you to visit us.
