Salary: Leadership Scale L22 - 27

Start Date: April 2026

Are you ready to take on a career-defining challenge? Does the opportunity to shape and lead a brand-new special school from the ground up excite you?

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Head Teacher to lead Artemis Academy, a new free special academy under construction in Faringdon, West Oxfordshire due to open in January 2027. Ideally, the Head Teacher will commence in April 2026 to work with the Academy’s project team to prepare for the school’s opening. From September 2026, the successful candidate will lead the provision for a small pre-opening cohort of students at one of the Trust’s existing Oxfordshire schools which will transfer to Artemis Academy on opening.

This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to shape the ethos, culture, and direction of a school that will deliver life-changing outcomes for children and young people aged 2 to 18 years with a diverse range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Artemis Academy will offer 100 places by its fourth year of opening for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, Autistic Spectrum Condition and moderate Cognition and Learning needs. Some students will have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences and trauma. The Academy will employ a holistic, trauma-responsive model, offering a nurturing and inclusive environment with emotional literacy and well-being at the core of its provision. Therapeutic and clinical support will be at the heart of the school, and close and collaborative relationships with families will be a core principle. You will collaborate with highly specialised multi-disciplinary therapeutic and clinical teams, and demonstrate your commitment to therapeutic practice. The successful candidate will welcome the opportunity to engage with evidence-based evaluation and research, working in partnership with highly respected stakeholders, including Oxford Brookes University.

Whether you’re an experienced Head Teacher or a senior leader ready to take the next step, what matters most is your passion for SEND, your ability to inspire and your moral purpose to make a meaningful difference.

Artemis Academy is part of The Gallery Trust- the largest Special Multi Academy Trust in Oxfordshire. The Trust comprises seven special schools and is known nationally for its innovative and effective approach to special education. As part of the Trust, you will benefit from:

  • A supportive and expert central business and commercial team
  • High-quality school improvement support

  • A comprehensive induction and CPD programme
  • Opportunities for growth, collaboration, and system leadership
