What skills and experience we're looking for
Dove House Academy is an aspirational and highly inclusive special school for 230 pupils, aged 11 to 19 situated across two sites in Basingstoke.Most pupils have a primary need of moderate learning difficulties or specific learning difficulties; however, an increasing proportion have a diagnosis of severe learning difficulties and Autism. The school is part of Solent Academies Trust is looking for a new Principal who will provide the strategic and operational leadership which will lead the team forward into the next phase of its development so that they can achieve the best possible outcomes for the young people and their families. Success at Dove House will also open the door to opportunities for executive leadership within the trust and to be a key part of its ambitious future and development.
With the changes in the cohort, the school is currently on an exciting journey of curriculum development to ensure it continues to meet the needs of all pupils to an exceptionally high standard. The new Principal will have the support of an enthusiastic and committed team who are motivated to move the school forward into its next phase. The school boasts excellent facilities including extensive outside space, a gym and large fitness suite. Additionally, there is plenty of scope for future development to the main site, with plans already underway to enhance and grow the physical environment further, including new classrooms and a redevelopment of outdoor spaces, to include areas such as horticulture and forest school provision.
Solent Academies Trust is a family of five incredible special schools with three in Portsmouth and one in Compton, West Sussex, each with their individual identity. The Trust is actively growing, and in addition to Dove House Academy joining in August 2023, it recently gained Secretary of State approval for a new Special Free School in Hampshire with further growth expected.
