Principal job summary

Following the promotion of the previous post-holder, Emmanuel Schools Foundation has an exciting opportunity for a talented educationist to join us and lead Emmanuel College to the next level and flourish as a genuinely world-class school.

We are seeking a visionary and exceptional leader, with a clear moral purpose, who can build on our established success and help take the College into its next phase.

Emmanuel College was most recently judged Outstanding in all areas during October 2024. All that we do is underpinned and shaped by our inclusive and vibrant Christian ethos.

We serve over 1,500 pupils, including a growing and high-performing Sixth Form, operated in partnership with our sister school in Gateshead, Grace College.

The successful candidate will be someone who will bring strategic vision, clear moral purpose, and relational strength. You will lead a school from an already strong platform, with a clear mandate to sustain exceptionality through the maintenance of high standards, innovation and outreach, ensuring that the Christian ethos is appreciated and loved by parents, staff and students alike.

You will work with your expert colleagues across the Trust, educationist and professional services alike, as an astute financial manager who will maximise efficiency, work to develop facilities that enable and capitalise on 6th form growth. Your expertise, along with that of your expert staff will be shared with schools and colleagues across the Trust developing capacity and capability.

If you have the relevant experience, believe schools act as a catalyst for social change, improving outcomes for students and the wider community and ensure your students experience an exceptional and consistent teaching and learning experience in an environment where everyone is Valued, Challenged and Inspired.

Please see the job pack for more information. If this could be your next role - we would be delighted to learn more about you!

Emmanuel College is designated as a school having a Christian character and whilst the provisions of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 Sections apply to this establishment, our admission’s policy does not contain a faith requirement for students. Owing to the particular characteristics of this post, there is an occupational requirement that the post-holder be a practising Christian.

In return for bringing your expertise, professionalism and experience to our organisation, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • access to a private health insurance scheme
  • a relocation package (subject to eligibility)
  • a daily lunch allowance for use in the school restaurant
  • access to our exclusive Benefits Hub.
  • a cycle to work scheme
  • a confidential employee assistance service
  • use of on-site fitness suite
  • an eye care voucher scheme
  • flu vaccination vouchers (subject to eligibility)

At Emmanuel College we have a reputation for academic excellence, yet we place a far higher premium upon character development.

The results our students achieve place Emmanuel firmly amongst a small handful of the best comprehensive schools in the nation, yet our student intake is carefully tailored to be representative of inner city Gateshead and Newcastle (two-thirds of our students come from “disadvantaged and highly disadvantaged” areas, and the average IQ is 100 with as many low-attaining as high-attaining students).

Our staff are dedicated professionals, yet most would describe what they do in terms of vocation rather than career.

We have a distinctive Christian ethos, yet we apply no faith test on intake. Parents choose Emmanuel for its orderly, calm, safe environment and emphasis upon respect for authority.

If you have a passion to make a difference in the lives of the young people of Gateshead and Newcastle, and demand the best from yourself as well as others, we would like to hear from you.
