Principal job summary
Do you have what it takes to nurture today’s young people and inspire tomorrow’s leaders? Are you a vibrant and dynamic leader with the drive, passion and commitment to deliver inspirational leadership to school staff and young people in a disadvantaged community? If so, becoming a Star leader might just be the best career move you ever make.
About Highfield Leadership Academy
Highfield Leadership Academy is a state-of-the-art secondary school for 11 to 16 year olds in Blackpool. We joined Star Academies in 2016 and, like all Star schools, we have a leadership specialism.
Since joining Star, the school has undergone a significant transformation. From being in ‘special measures’ in 2016, the school was judged to be ‘good’ in three areas in its latest Ofsted inspection and was commended for being “incredibly proactive in improving the quality of education for all pupils”.
We have high ambitions and expectations for all of our pupils. We provide a knowledge-based academic curriculum alongside a rich and diverse leadership programme that grows character and inspires charitable and social action. Our pursuit of educational excellence is based upon our fundamental belief that every pupil has the capacity to become a successful and inspirational leader.
The culture of the school has been transformed into a vibrant, dynamic and welcoming learning environment that is loved by pupils and staff alike. Our high-quality academic pathways support pupils to progress to top colleges and universities. This is layered with specialist, targeted support for vulnerable pupils to ensure every child achieves. This dual strategy ensures inclusion and equity for all and, as a result, our pupils have developed a strong sense of self-belief and now dream about their bright futures that lay ahead.
The school operates as a civic hub at the heart of its community with a broad range of community activities with young people at the centre. With a number of significant developments in the pipeline, it’s an exciting time to join the school and spearhead a number of pioneering advances.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for an exceptional, dynamic and energetic leader who can continue to drive improvement, raise standards and create rich new opportunities and experiences for pupils.
We want to hear from ambitious, talented senior leaders who will bring inspirational leadership to our school. You will be highly motivated and passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people with the natural ability to inspire and motivate both pupils and peers.
With substantial leadership experience as a senior leader, you will lead an approach that sees every challenge as an opportunity to continually improve standards of education and to foster an outstanding learning environment. As a Star leader, you’ll join the Star Academies family, a high-performing and supportive network of primary and secondary schools with some of the best leaders in education. We’ll provide an exceptional programme of professional development that’s tailored to support you to succeed in the role, to develop and grow your team and to prepare you for the next step in your career.
If you are a talented, ambitious leader with a firm belief that all young people, irrespective of their background or prior attainment, can and will achieve the very best, we want to hear from you.
You will have:
- A degree-level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status.
- Substantial experience of senior leadership and management within and across school settings.
- The ability to create, and secure commitment to, a clear vision for an effective and high achieving school.
- A strong commitment to our STAR values.
