What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an experienced, visionary, and empathetic Principal to lead Nightingale Community Academy. This role is an exciting opportunity to make a profound impact on students' lives by fostering an environment where their individual needs are met and celebrated. The successful candidate will drive our mission forward, championing a positive culture for students and staff, enhancing educational programs, and working closely with families, the local community, and external partners.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and inspire a team of dedicated staff, promoting professional growth and high standards of practice
• Ensure a student-centred approach, where each individual’s needs are met through tailored support
• Oversee the strategic development of the curriculum to promote academic achievement, personal growth, and life skills
• Strengthen relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community, ensuring all stakeholders are engaged and supportive of the academy’s mission
• Act as an advocate for students with SEMH needs, promoting awareness, understanding, and best practices in education for students with additional needs
• Manage resources effectively, ensuring the best possible provision for our students while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment
• Drive continuous improvement, using data and feedback to inform future strategies, goals, and development initiatives
Requirements:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a substantial track record in a senior leadership role
• Experience working with students with SEMH needs, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the complex challenges they may face
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a diverse team
• A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance the academy’s educational vision with the operational demands of school leadership
The ideal candidate will be a strong, compassionate leader with a proven background in special education, ideally within a SEMH setting. You will bring an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities within SEMH education, paired with a commitment to creating an inclusive, nurturing school environment.

Nightingale Community Academy is a school for boys aged between 5 and 19 who have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or Statement of SEN for social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Some learners also have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or other learning difficulties. At Nightingale Community Academy we are committed to raising the expectations of our learner group, removing barriers to learning and delivering attainment at the highest level.
