“It takes a whole village to educate a child.”
Oasis Academy Johanna (www.oasisacademyjohanna.org) is a fully inclusive one-form entry Nursery and Primary Academy with a strong reputation for supporting children with complex educational needs in a mainstream setting. The Academy is reflective of the diverse community it serves (thirty two languages are spoken at the academy) and is located close to Waterloo Station in Central London.
The Academy has a powerful ethos treats everyone inclusively and recognises the importance of a holistic approach to education. As well as being a caring school that delivers first-class education (Ofsted – Good with Outstanding features – March 2019), the Academy is central to building a strong community by helping to shape and drive provision provided by the Oasis Hub Waterloo.
The Principal has a key voice on the Hub council. Every week the Oasis Hub Waterloo (http://www.oasiswaterloo.org/) provides outstanding education to hundreds of local children (Oasis Academy Johanna and Oasis Academy Southbank), the Foodbank puts food on the table for struggling families, the Debt Advice Team supports people burdened by money worries, the Family Workers create ways for families to grow together and develop a supportive community. The Healthspace team works closely with the school community to encourage a healthier lifestyle while the Youth Team targets disengaged young people and uses sport to create young leaders
Due to the strong relationship between the Academy and Lambeth Local Authority, an agreement has been reached to significantly redevelop the Academy site over the coming years to create a state of the art school building that will consolidate the existing Special Needs Resource Base as well as providing additional amenities for the local community such as affordable accommodation. The Principal will work closely with the Leader of the redevelopment scheme and the Hub Leader.
The highly experienced staff team at Oasis Academy Johanna personalise learning to meet the needs of their children, whilst making learning engaging and fun. The rich curriculum is designed to provide opportunities to develop music and the creative arts. They have high expectations as demonstrated by a sustained record of strong academic outcomes that are routinely above National Outcomes at every statutory assessment point. They help pupils to do their very best so that when they transfer to secondary school they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful.
