About the Role:
The Pupil & Family Welfare Lead will work within our busy Inclusion Team and will report directly to the Assistant Head (Inclusion). This is a key role in the school, the post-holder will be the schools Designated Safeguarding Lead, e-Safety Lead, Prevent Lead, Attendance Lead, Mental Health Lead and a member of the schools Senior Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Act as the school’s DSL, ensuring compliance with safeguarding regulations.
- Monitor pupil attendance and work to improve attendance rates.
- Liaise with families and external agencies to ensure effective support for pupils.
- Actioning child protection concerns.
- Safeguarding pupils.
- Identifying and scheduling interventions to meet the mental health needs of pupils.
What We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or similar role, with strong knowledge of safeguarding regulations.
- Ability to lead and support staff, including delivering training and managing SEMH intervention programmes.
- Capable of managing attendance monitoring, safeguarding records, and liaising with external agencies.
- Strong ability to build positive relationships with families, staff, and external professionals.

Sidegate is a vibrant three-form entry primary school in the north of Ipswich. The school hosts a 25 place Specialist Education Unit for pupils with moderate learning difficulties, giving approximately 655 pupils on roll. The school boasts large grounds, an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and good ICT provision. We pride ourselves in the broad and engaging curriculum we offer our pupils; sport and culture
feature highly and are used to enhance the curriculum in all areas. The school received a “Good” Ofsted rating in October 2022. We were the first primary school in Suffolk to be awarded the prestigious Platinum Artsmark in November 2019; we also hold quality marks in RE, Science and Sport.
Sidegate became an academy in May 2014 with The Active Learning Trust (ALT). ALT encourages each of their schools to develop a curriculum that meets the needs of the pupils in the school. They work closely with the school, providing specialist advisory support as necessary. We work closely with other schools in the ALT Ipswich Hub and the Northgate Pyramid of Schools.
