This vital in-house post marks an important step in strengthening our support for students with visual impairments.

We are open to discussion regarding working hours, ideally seeking a candidate available for 0.6 or 0.8 FTE.

The Role Will Involve:

  • Providing specialist teaching and support for students with visual impairments within our dedicated VI base.
  • Conducting functional vision assessments (FVAs) and contributing to statutory processes such as EHCPs and annual reviews.
  • Delivering direct teaching and intervention tailored to individual access needs, including Braille and assistive technology.
  • Collaborating with the SENCO, teaching assistants, and subject teachers to adapt learning resources and classroom delivery.
  • Offering training and guidance to staff to promote inclusive teaching practices across the curriculum.
  • Liaising with families, external professionals (e.g., Ophthalmology, Habilitation specialists), and examination officers to ensure comprehensive support for students.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A qualified teacher with QTS and the mandatory qualification for teaching children and young people with visual impairments (QTVI).
  • A confident, empathetic professional with a secure understanding of how to adapt the curriculum for visually impaired learners.
  • Someone committed to promoting independence, inclusion, and achievement for students with visual impairments.
  • A team player who can lead on staff development, resource modification, and digital accessibility.

We Offer:

  • A welcoming and inclusive school environment with an experienced SEND team.
  • Strong support from leadership and a culture that values professional development.
  • The opportunity to shape and develop an in-house provision for visually impaired students.
