Fred Nicholson School is a Complex Needs School for pupils aged 4-18 with a wide range of needs, including low-moderate and severe learning difficulties as well as social interaction and communication difficulties. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and access to our curriculum that utilises aspects of the National Curriculum adapted to suit the needs of our pupils ranging from early developmental levels through to Functional Skills Entry Level accreditations. 

You will be joining the school at a very exciting time in the school’s history. Our new school offers us modern facilities to meet the needs of our young people. We have specially designed sensory rooms, soft play areas, independence classrooms and bespoke learning spaces.

Please note that from April 2026 we will be offering an Early Years and Key Stage One provision. The teacher vacancies are within our Early Years to Key Stage Three classes, depending on the experience and interests of successful candidates. We welcome applications from teachers who wish to teach an Early Years and Key Stage One curriculum.

Please note: Whilst Fred Nicholson School is currently based in Dereham we will be relocated to Lynn Road, Swaffham in April 2026. 

You will be:

An outstanding practitioner with a background in or strong understanding of the primary curriculum, as cross curriculum planning is at the core of how we work. You will have responsibility for delivering a variety of curriculum subjects and will have a thorough understanding of modifying the curriculum to meet needs. You will also bring an understanding of how important your role will be in preparing our young people for the next stage in their life and what they will need to be successful in doing so.
