Reception Teacher (Maternity Leave - January to end of academic year) job summary

The successful candidate will be required to plan and deliver lessons that are exciting and engaging, with a strong emphasis on the importance of learning through play. You will have high expectations of pupil behaviour, work well as part of a team alongside support staff and be dedicated to creating a positive learning environment for the young learners in your care.

A secure understanding of the EYFS is essential. The school encourages teachers to plan engaging activities linked to the children’s own interests. During child-initiated learning, you will use your knowledge of the EYFS to extend children’s learning further.

This is a 0.6fte job-share position required for two terms (1st January 2026 - 31st August 2026). Working days are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The successful candidate will:

Be fully supportive of our Catholic ethos and will be passionate about Catholic Social Teaching.

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in like with EYFS framework, focusing on key areas of learning and development.
  • Working closely with the Nursery Team to ensure a smooth transition for the children moving from Nursery to Reception, and Reception to Year 1.
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages children's curiosity, creativity, and social development.
  • Work closely with Teachers and Support staff within the EYFS team and contribute to the overall school community.
  • Regularly assess and observe children's progress, tailoring teaching approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Collaborate with parents and support children's learning both at home and in the school setting.
  • Have a strong commitment to their own learning and professional development.
  • Have a good sense of humour and emotional intelligence.
  • Have excellent organisational skills.
