Receptionist job summary

For this post, relevant experience of working in a busy office is desirable, but experience of working in a school is not; you just have to like children – including teenagers! The main duties of the post are:

  • Presenting a positive welcome for all visitors, parents, pupils and staff.
  • Answering the telephone, greeting visitors and liaising with other school staff.
  • Maintaining visitor logs and liaising with our on-site security team.
  • Monitoring and handling the main school email address.
  • First point of contact for all student enquiries.
  • First point of contact for any medical or first aid queries from pupils and staff. Full training will be given by an accredited provider.
  • Maintaining medical records and administering prescribed medication to pupils as necessary.
  • Sorting and distributing external mail to staff.
  • Maintaining the lost property store.

The following knowledge and experience are essential for the role:

  • Experience of clerical and administrative work.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Understanding of the needs of children.
  • A caring nature, as much of this role will be dealing with pupils who require first aid.
